Cookery Class Launching Alongside the Lunch Club

posted 16th July 2025
We are excited to announce the integration of a weekly cookery class into our Lunch Club programme! This development comes as part of our ongoing commitment to promoting social inclusion, cultural exchange, and stronger community connections through engaging, meaningful activities.
Why a Cookery Class?
Based on feedback and outcomes from similar past projects, we found that cookery classes inspired deeper involvement and more vibrant interaction among attendees. Cooking together encourages sharing skills, stories, traditions, and values—and builds bridges between people of different cultures, backgrounds, and generations.
By embedding a cookery session into the start of our weekly Lunch Club, we are creating an environment where participants can learn from one another, explore new recipes and techniques, and express their identity through food. This hands-on experience transforms a shared meal into a shared journey.
Empowering Individuals
The cookery class gives individuals a platform to showcase their culinary heritage, build confidence, and take on leadership roles. Each week, a different participant will lead the cooking session, supported with ingredients and guidance from the ANYiSO team. This rotating model promotes ownership, skill-building, and pride in contribution.
Participants are not just learning to cook—they’re developing communication skills and teamwork. These experiences can be empowering for those who may be isolated, new to the area, or seeking opportunities to reconnect with others.
Strengthening Families
The benefits of the cookery class extend beyond the individual. Participants often take new recipes and cooking techniques home, enriching their family meals with healthier, more diverse options. For many, it's also an opportunity to pass down traditional dishes or introduce their children to the culinary practices of their culture.
By encouraging healthier eating habits and reinforcing the importance of cooking from scratch, the programme can support long-term well-being for families in the community.
Building a Stronger Community
At its heart, this initiative is about community integration. When people cook together, they build trust, form friendships, and appreciate the richness of each other’s backgrounds. The cultural activity component—where each week's cook shares something about their traditions or interests—turns the kitchen into a space of celebration and learning.
This inclusive approach fosters mutual respect, breaks down social barriers, and contributes to a stronger, more cohesive community.
Practical Details
The cookery class will run every week from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by the Lunch Club at 12 pm. Please note that for safety reasons, children will not be allowed at the sessions.
We’re excited to welcome familiar faces and new ones alike into this inspiring new chapter of the Lunch Club.
